The Faberge Egg.

When the Developer of the Hillsborough Showcase House in Petaluma, CA. which will be featured in Architectural Digest, approached CCI, they had an idea on how the Elevator cab should look like; “A Faberge Egg”. We set out to work with the Developer and Taylor Architects to develop this unique Elevator cab and turn the dream into reality. After code considerations, we developed realistic 3-Dimensional drawings complete with all the finishes showing the Elevator in the open atrium type shaft from different angles. When they saw the rendered drawings, they knew exactly how the Elevator would look and were so impressed, that they gave us the go ahead on the project in a matter of hours rather than the lengthy process normally associated with this type of project. Our initial meeting with the Developer was in August, 2003. We plan to install and turn over the project by late February 2004. Typically, this type of job requires a long approval process of preliminary drawings, besides the time for fabrication and installation. As you can see, when the communications are done properly and the exchange of ideas take place using 3-D modeling, understanding and completing a project becomes very simple. It is this exchange of ideas that take the longest time due to 2-D drawings that are not clear and details that do not convey the complete message which causes the procedure to prolong and the simple part of drawing approvals takes forever to finish. This project, and this house will truly be a show case and to the credit of  the Developer and Architect, will be a showcase of design, timing, and execution.  Successfully Completed

Think inside the box. When everyone tells you to think outside the box, we ask you to do the opposite. Actually it is the creative minds at the Architectural firm of Renzo Piano and Beyer Blinder Belle want you to think inside this glass box. The cab is a glass box with an Aluminum egg crate roof in an atrium, a very simple concept with dramatic effect. When inside   the cars, you only see glass all around and see through the egg crate roof. What makes this cab design possible is that the car frame and door operator are under the platform and hidden behind a complete shroud. There are no structural or mechanical parts visible. The door operator system is our unique “Galaxy” door operator system that works under the platform. This provides the clean look above the car.  This has been another successful project where we worked from the start with the Architects and Code authorities to turn another dream into reality. This will be a very unique Elevator design in the Capital City of all Elevators, New York City

Jackson Rancheria Casino

When the Jackson Rancheria Casino needed to expand, they wanted to make a statement with the expansion. To this end they hired the help of the Worth Group Architects/Builders for the expansion. When it came to the Elevator, they hired the best in the business, they hired Custom Cabs Industries.

The Elevator is in the section of the Casino that leads to the dining area and is away from the rest of the activities of the Casino. The Casino wanted to make this, the Elevator the focal point of the new area. To achieve this goal, they wanted a “Bird Cage”

Elevator with an open Cage design for the shaft.

After careful consideration of the governing Codes, CCI was able to provide the look they wanted, while at the same time, not sacrifice the safety issues of the Code.

We started off with 3-D models as shown on sample figures 1,2, and 3 to show what the Elevator will look like before it is even built. Once we had the concept approved, the drawings and fabrication of the parts and assemblies were easy.

The Elevator cab, Entrances, and Shaft have the look of an Elevator from the early 1900s, with the conveniences of the modern era. The Elevator has power operated car and hall doors, a sophisticated Control system which makes it a very reliable unit hidden behind an old charming look.

When Niebaum-Coppola Winery was ready to add on to this charming turn of the century winery in the Wine Country (Napa Valley, CA.), they turned to JQB Yacht Design Group - Seattle.

When it came to the Elevator, JQB turned to CCI.

The theme of the Elevator was to blend in with the rest of the building and yet make it the center piece of the project.

By meeting with the Architect, and exchanging ideas via sketches, drawings, and 3-D models, we created a design that was feasible to build and meet the discriminating taste of the Architect, and his clients.

When a design is properly followed through, the results are nothing but spectacular. The pictures say more than any words can about this small but charming Elevator in a very spectacular estate.
